Square Corner Cafe First Impression

Tonight, Steph and I decided to try the Square Corner Cafe that recently opened on Washington Street in Roslindale Village for dinner (take-out). We originally thought it was going to be a breakfast-type of place but it actually is a pizza/sub shop-type of place. I decided to try the lasagna and Steph got the pasta and sauce, the Blue Green salad and we split a side of steak fries. The word apparently hasn't gotten out yet because the place was empty at 6:30pm on a Friday and I seemed to be one of the few customers when I got there. The food was ready within the 10-15 promised and the staff was very friendly when I went in. It looks very clean/new and could see myself going there on a Saturday afternoon for a sub or some weeknight after work to grab something to take home. Now, onto the food.

The lasagna and pasta had a delicious red sauce with some grated cheese on the top of both. The lasagna was great but the portion was a little small for the $9.50 price ($8 would be a bit more reasonable). Steph enjoyed her pasta and I ate her leftovers to fill the void from the small lasagna potion. The steak fries were huge, crispy and tasty - very much worth the $2 they cost. The salad is sitting in our refridgerator as we were only able to eat a few bites. The rest of the food filled us up pretty well but the two cucumbers with blue cheese and bacon went great with the glass of white wine I had with the meal.

All in all, we had a great first impression and can see ourselves getting something here about every week this summer. Give it a try. And no, they are not paying me for this review. :) Enjoy!
