Well, today I returned to Mass Eye and Ear for a follow up appointment with my retina specialist after this fiasco two months ago. After I wrote that post, I received phone calls, letters and apologies from numerous people at Mass Eye and Ear and was promised things would be better for this visit. Today, I am happy to say they kept their word.
My appointment was at 12:45 and I got there 20 minutes early. I was a little worried that another long afternoon lied ahead as I counted 11 people in the waiting room already (the doctor's clinic starts at 12:30). But it seemed like today these patients might have been waiting for other doctors. So, I sat down and only had to wait about 5 minutes for the nurse to take me in for my preliminary exam. That took about 10 minutes and then I went back to the waiting room for about 10-15 more minutes and then was seen by the doctor (ahead of almost everyone else)! And today it actually felt like he wasn't rushed and I could ask some questions. He apologized again for my experience a couple of months ago and told me the changes they made were better for everyone (doctors, patients, staff). My experience was the tip of the iceberg and my blog from last time was apparently the catalyst for change. So, whatever they did definitely made an improvement with my experience this time and I was on my way home at 1:15...30 minutes after my scheduled appointment which was great! Let's hope it lasts.
Kudos to Mass Eye and Ear for listening to its patients and actually doing something about its problems. See you in February.
Thanks,
